Alden Designs Database at the MIT Museum

Niels Helleberg, designer and chief naval architect at John G. Alden since 1971, directed the cataloging and scanning of the Alden plans collection over the last decade.  This month, January 2014, the Alden office which operated more recently under his name is closing.  By prior agreement  the MIT Hart Museum will house the John G. Alden Collection including plans and records from the Boston Office, all of which have been transferred to MIT.  Niels also kindly allowed the MIT Museum to take over the Alden website.  For many years Niels and others that he worked with such as Don Parrot, have been everything Alden, a rich resource for Alden owners and others seeking infromation, or guidance or professional assistance in restoring Alden boats. He will be missed in this capacity by many of us who enjoyed and benefited from his generosity, great sense of humor and his vast and practical knowledge of yacht design. Truely the ending of another area in American yachting history.  Cheers Niels, and thanks; skål !
