Ada C Lore

This beautiful photo of Ada C Lore is from Anne Gupman of Baltimore, long time volunteer at the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race.  It was the start of a GCBSR off Annapolis.  The schooner was built in 1923 by Charles H Stowman & Sons in Dorchester, NJ for oyster dredging.

Ada C Lore was refitted several years ago at the Hinkley yard in Southwest Harbor, and has since been sailing on whale watches out of Eastport, Maine.  This week she was dismasted and damaged extensively above the waterline in a pier collapse that injured a man aboard.  She's a tough boat, and we hope she will be brought back to sail again next season. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/eastport-breakwater-collapse-injures-man-damages-boats-1.2862038

There's something about Anne's photo.  I've seen countless photographs of schooners, and this one is a favorite.
