Charter Awarded to the Gulf of Maine Chapter

Commodore Alex Rhinelander presented the Charter for the new Gulf of Maine Chapter to interim Vice Commodore Robert MacAleer at the ASA Annual Meeting in Mystic, CT on Feb. 4th.

Any ASA members interested in joining the GOM Chapter should contact Don Zappone, the interim Chapter Commodore, or Jo-Ellen Reed, the interim Chapter Secretary (see the Member Directory for contact details).

Here is an excerpt from the Petition for a Charter summitted to the Board of Governors:
The following is an official petition, on behalf of four members in good standing, who wish to form the Gulf of Maine Chapter of the American Schooner Association. The proposed Officers of the Chapter have agreed to accept their roles and responsibilities voluntarily on an interim basis to move the formation of the Chapter forward. The proposed chapter will solicit interest from other members in good standing to join the proposed Chapter. The Chapter is not proposing to levy Chapter dues or fees at this time. That decision will be left to chapter members by vote at later date, once a charter has been granted. At its first annual meeting of the proposed chapter (to occur no later than one year after a charter is granted), chapter members will be able to vote on a permanent slate of officers.

The interim chapter officers are:
Don Zappone: Chapter Commodore
Robert Macaleer: Chapter Vice Commodore
Peter Thompson: Chapter Rear Commodore
Jo-Ellen Reed: Chapter Secretary
