The story on the Story.

Though not technically owned by me, the Story is the closest I have to "MY" Schooner. As a museum member I sail on her as well as help maintain her.

The Story is a replica of what is thought to be the design of earliest American schooner, circa 1700. For more info on her look at www.essexshipbuildingmuseum.org

the real deal

i met the crew and they are the best.............

Lewis H. Story

I read the post on the Schooner Lewis H. Story of Essex, Massachusetts. I am hoping that you may be able to head me in the right direction on my researching a schooner that several of my relatives were mariners on...it was built by Josiah Story.
The Schooner Contest was built in Essex, MA in 1860, by Josiah Story. It was 96 73/95 carpenter tons. It went down to the sea during the George's Bank Gale of February 24 and 25, 1862. Thirteen Schooners went down during that Gale 150 years ago This tragedy lead to a Congressional mandate to change the designs of Schooners. Could you advise me of any research materials where I may be able to find information on this schooner? I thank you in advance for any help you could give to me.
