looking for a schooner

Hello to all,

I'm a new member of the ASA - just attended the annual meeting and found it inspiring to meet so many schooner people! Last year about this time I quit my conventional job (through either insanity or pure clarity) and took a position as relief cook on the schooners Grace Bailey and Mercantile in Camden. And so I was hooked. I'll be cooking for Ocean Classroom on the Westward this April and then back to Maine Windjammer Cruises in May.

But the reason I'm writing is because my long term goal is to run passenger cruises or educational programs on a schooner on Narragansett Bay in RI (my childhood home) visiting the ports of Providence, Bristol and Newport. I already have viable and available docking in Providence and Bristol. And so I'm looking to perhaps charter, or buy, a schooner - or find a business partner with experience - for the 2008 season. Ideally I'd like to be able to sleep anywhere from 6 - 12 people in single or double cabins and an engine would be helpful.

If anyone is inclined to offer advice, suggestions or interests about available schooners please do so.

And PS - I don't have a lot of money.

Thanks for your help!

Try going to the bottom of the web page, then spend some time perusing backwards to prior submissions, and I think you may even find some schooner charter businesses for sale, with vessels that may suit your interest. Whether they are still current opportunities, I do not know.

Best of luck and welcome aboard. Keep posting !!
