GCBSR updates for 2008 - New event added to the weeks events

We are in high gear getting ready for the 19th annual event. With over 50 entrants and some new events on the schedule we are even more excited than ever.

For those not yet signed up the SPINSHEET program has gone to print so unfortunatley we won't be able to include you for this year. WE are still accepting applications dependent on space available in Portsmouth.

In addition to the regular events on the schedule
(www.schoonerrace.org)we want to make sure that those planning to join us will try and make it into town just a little earlier to take advantag of some additional fun.

Oct 12 @ 1PM Blindfolded Dinghy Race
This FUNdraiser for the race is a community sponsored event. This year our sponsor and host One Eyed Mikes has posted a challenge to many of the local business establishement in Fells Point. Music food and prizes for the participants. A minimal charge for those not participating if you want to join in the fun!

NEW EVENT !!! For those of you who haven't yet heard we are adding a new event to our schedule on Tuesday evening, Oct 14.

A FREE concert will be offered on Broadway Pier from 6-8 by several of our schooner friends.

We hope that those planning to participate in race will join us in time to take advantage of this new offering and an old favorite.

Record number of Schooners registered for the race.

With the entry of Nina, The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race has more entries than ever before. With 54 entries, we have more entries than in any of the previous 18 years. More Schooners are likely to enter, often until just days before the event.
If you are thinking of coming, bring your camera.
The view of this many schooners tied up in Fells Point, Baltimore, Maryland and later in Portsmouth, Virginia is a sight to behold.
Only two better picture opportunities:
The Parade of Sail, in Baltimore Harbor, with a number of these boats "parading" is unbelievable.
The Start. The sight of so many schooners heading down the Chesapeake Bay together on Thursday afternoon is just glorious. If you have never been there, if you have any soft spot in your heart for sail, get there. If it is your first time, you will be sorry you waited. Just get to The Start.
