Where is the schooner ACTIVE?

ACTIVE is a Murray Peterson Coaster II built for John E Marsland by Robinhood Marina in 1963. She is 42’7” LOA, 35’2” LWL, 12’3” beam. In March 2010 John Marsland, now 103 was our speaker at the Mid-Atlantic Chapter meeting in St. Michaels. He entertained us with details of ACTIVE’s design and his 1971 Atlantic crossing. This passage was the subject of an article in Wooden Boat No. 7, and it can be downloaded with no difficulty from the WB website. After the talk John and I got into a discussion about some of the obscure places around Robinhood, ME, and I can tell you he is still sharp as a tack.

John has lost track of ACTIVE’s whereabouts, so the purpose of this post is to see what we can find out about her. I believe she was at one time renamed WHISPER, and may have sailed out of Charleston, SC. Comments and recollections of any kind are welcome. The DAPHNE thread on this website makes quite a story. ACTIVE has the potential for another ramble. I may be sailing up to St. Michaels from Norfolk in early June for a visit with John, and would like to bring him some news.
