In need of crew!

I start my annual pilgrimage down to the Chesapeake Bay for the The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race Tuesday, 10/2 and I could use another crew member aboard Quintessence for two of the trip legs.

Barnegat Bay to Philadelphia: I need another hand to join Jay Irwin and I for the trip around to Philadelphia. Leave Toms River Tuesday 10/2 with overnight stops at Atlantic City, Cape May and Delaware City to arrive in Philadelphia sometime Friday afternoon.

I will be spending the weekend in Philadelphia at the Old City Seaport Festival. The Festival is greatly expanded and should be a lot of fun. Parade of Sail, pirate battle, crew dinner and a beer deck. What more could you ask for! Gazela, Pride II, Kalmar Nykel, Meerwald, Summerwind (possibly) Summer Wind
(Colvin junk rigged schooner) and a bunch of antigue and classic boats will be there. You are more than welcome to stay aboard if you wish!

Philadelphia to Baltimore: Leave Philly Monday 10/8 around 0730. Ride the ebb down the Delaware River, then through the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal and down the Chesapeake to Baltimore. Depending on timing, we will run straight through to Baltimore or we may anchor out for a few hours somewhere along the way. I hope to arrive in Baltimore to be off Fort McHenry around noon for the Battle of Baltimore, a new event this year. Many schooners from the race will be acting as 1812 era Britsh invaders trading invectives and broadsides with the Fort while hundreds of school kids will be at the fort and on numerous vessels in the area.

I have also challenged Summer Wind, Meerwald and Pride II to a race from Philly to Baltimore so this will be the first running of the Epic Philadelphia to Baltimore Race. We have a Race Cup, which will be on permanent display at the Independence Seaport Museum, to award and everything!
