August 24, 2014 - with a full set of new sails from Roy Downs

Disabled doesn't stop activities that are important to Ed

I became paralyzed in 2007 as a result of a fall from a vessel.  In 2010 I was in a second accident that made me an amputee above the knee.  As I rehabed I designed some changes to a crane and the Hoyer Sling.  These photos show how I get aboard the Sugar Babe in the sling and crane.  Now all I have to figure out is how to get below and then its off cruising this coming summer.

I also work for the Greater Boston Chapter of Spinal Cord Injuries at the new Spaulding Hospital in Charlestown.  We mentor new patients, answering their questions about life after rehab, which is very important to their success in their community.
